After what seems like forever, Minnesota United returned to training recently after a three week break and we visited the training ground in Blaine this afternoon. The players look well rested and are re-gaining match level fitness following the first half of nearly two months without a competitive match. Last time the Loons took the pitch for an MLS contest was on 23 May against Real Salt Lake. They won't hit the pitch again in MLS play until 22 July, nearly two months between matches.
Over the last month while most of the Loons were on break a few players were taking part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Michael Boxall with New Zealand, who finished fourth in Group G with a record of 0-1-2 (1 point) in the group stage. Boxall started the first two of their three group stage matches. Carlos Harvey was also called up to the World Cup for Panama, who went 0-0-3 (0 points) finishing last in Group L.
As well during the break defender Devin Padelford signed a new contract, guaranteeing he'll be in the black and blue for the next two seasons, with a club option for the 2029/30 season.
