Loons on Loan: Late April Update

It's time for another check in with the MNUFC and MNUFC2 players out on loan.

Last time we checked in on the various Loons on Loan was earlier this month and now it's once again time to check back in. Since our last update there is one less Loon on Loan as Kayne Rizvanovich was recalled from Brooklyn FC (USLC). That recall brings the total players on loan down to nine across six leagues in five separate countries on three continents.

Worldwide Loons

Hoyeon Jung (Suwon Samsung Bluewings, K League 2): Last time we checked in earlier this month, Jung had been having an outstanding time with the Bluewings. That has not changed as the 25 year old South Korean has become part of Suwon's main eleven. He started all three matches and playing all 270 minutes in the past few weeks and never had a bad performance. While he did not score Jung has been a great offensive pivot for the Bluewings.

Passing wise he averaged 89% accuracy over the previous three matches and created a number of chances, including three against Gyeongnam FC. He maintained the offensive prowess in a 3–2 win against Busan IPark, with outstanding accuracy and nine shots. Defensively his best performance was against Gimpo FC where he won almost three-quarters of his duels and drew four fouls while committing just a single one.

Wessel Speel (Shelbourne FC, League of Ireland): Over in Ireland it has been a rough time for Wessel Speel and the boys from Shelbourne. Speel allowed a combined six goals in the previous two matches, taking losses in both of the matches played. Speel has allowed 12 goals in their last four matches, which has seen them take four consecutive losses in the span.

The issue for Shelbourne has not been Speel but rather a defence that has been cut through like a hot knife going through warm butter. Defensive miscues have resulted in a majority of those goals. Speel has remained the Reds primary keeper, though the club has slid towards relegation places.

Matúš Kmeť (FC DAC 1904, Niké liga): Matúš Kmeť has been a standout player for DAC at times as they chase the Slovakian top flight title. That was shown most recently against Zemplín Michalovce where Kmeť scored the match winning goal in 85 minutes played and earned Player of the Match honours. However for every standout performance there has been two or three average ones to match it.

Kmeť came on as a substitute in the next two matches totaling 71 minutes played between matches against Železiarne Podbrezová and Spartak Trnava. He made his next and most recent start this past weekend against Žilina where he played 59 minutes. In each of those three matches he had an average outing with not much to show on the stat sheet.

Momoh Kamara (IF Elfsborg, Allsvenskan): One of the newest Loons to head out on loan the MNUFC2 midfielder has just made his first appearance in the Swedish top flight. Today (27 April) he came on as a substitute playing 31 minutes. Kamara registered one shot in his half hour on the pitch and was handed a yellow card as well. This came following Kamara not be on the matchday roster the previous three contests against Västrås, Degerfors, or Djurgården.

Loons in the USL

Babacar Niang (Louisville City, USLC): On loan in the USL Championship the season has been successful for LouCity, though not as much for Niang. The 24 year old midfielder has made two starts in the last four matches and was subbed on in the 90th minute in one other. He did not appear for Louisville in their Open Cup match against Austin FC. Niang has struggled a bit in his time in Kentucky having not created any scoring chances and at times had issues with passing accuracy.

Curt Calov (San Antonio FC, USLC): Another Loon in the USL, Calov has worked his way into San Antonio's starting eleven, but has not played a full 90 minutes in a single match. In the previous four matches, since we last checked in, he has started twice and come on as a sub twice totaling 178 minutes. His longest appearance was over the weekend against Birmingham Legion where he started and played 67 minutes. The 22 year old has made himself into a bit of a chance creator for SAFC, but sadly has no goals or assists this season to show for the effort.

Britton Fischer (Hartford Athletic, USLC): The 22 year old defender has proven to be a key player and defender for Hartford. Fischer has played all 270 minutes of the previous three matches and helped pitch two clean sheets in those three contests. Unfortunately for Hartford they fell in penalties over the weekend in the USL Cup's 'Loons on Loan Derby' against Rhode Island, where Logan Dorsey is playing.

Logan Dorsey (Rhode Island FC, USLC): Speaking of Logan Dorsey, the man himself has had a rough ride with Rhode Island this season. The 23 year old played in three of the last four matches for RIFC, but only had meaningful minutes in two of those. He came on in the 88th minute against Lexington SC and did not play against Charleston Battery. In the US Open Cup against New England, Dorsey started and went 54 minutes but did not score. He went 66 minutes over the weekend against Rhode Island and struggled in that outing too. In eight appearances with Rhode Island the young striker has only found the back of the net once this season.

Kage Romanshyn Jr. (Forward Madison, USL1): Wrapping up is the closest Loon on Loan who is just across the border in Wisconsin. Out of the Flamingos last three matches he has only made one singular appearance. The 20 year old midfielder came on as a substitute this weekend playing 21 minutes for Madison. His only appearance since our last check in saw him on the pitch while Madison was already down 3–1 to Lexington SC in the USL Cup.
