Joe De May has resigned as the head women's soccer coach of the University of Sioux Falls to "pursue an exciting full-time, professional opportunity with US Soccer in Atlanta" . De May is also Sporting Director of Sioux Falls City.
Addressing the move, Sioux Falls City CEO Sherri Myers, who is married to De May, had the following statement to Northland Soccer Journal:
Joe's role since day one, five years ago at our founding, has been as Sporting Director, which is a role that may or may not include the day to day coaching of the team. It includes strategy, both long term and short, recruiting, and oversight of all soccer related things happening with CITY. As the club grows and builds toward and eventually has a first team professional squad, our Sporting needs will change and our staffing will adapt accordingly. While Joe's role may change, his involvement with City to leading the Sporting side of the club will not.
Sioux Falls City's season begins on May 23rd at 7pm against Rockford Raptors in the USL W. We wish them, and Coach De May well.
