Wednesday:
Lady Victory FC 2 vs 3 FC Pride
This Indy derby saw FC Pride travel up to suburban Westfield, IN. The visitors took the lead after only 4 minutes after Lizzie Chlystun chipped the keeper from the left edge of the penalty area, following a left wing corner. Lady Victory also had a chance from a corner in the 11th minute but it was eventually scooped up by the Pride keeper. In the 14th minute, it was two, courtesy of Paige Miller, who finished off a sweeping move from the right after the ball was intercepted in the midfield by Pride’s high press. Just before half time, pressure down the right wing was brought into the penalty arc and a ball was softly played through for Anna Isger to score for Lady Victory.
In the 58th minute, it was 3–1 as a left wing corner was cycled round to the right wing and Chlystun dribbled the ball in and chipped the ball over the keeper from the right edge of the box. In the 78th minute, Pride had a chance to make it a three goal margin after a foul in the penalty area from a sliding challenge, but the PK was saved by the Lady Victory goalkeeper, diving comfortably to her left. Lady Victory mounted a late rally had another a late rally, breaking down the right before the ball was finished off by Maya Lacognato in the center of the 6 yard box in stoppage time, but there was no time left for Victory to complete the comeback.
Thursday:
Minnesota Thunder 6 vs 0 Rochester United FC
The home side took a 7th minute lead after a cross from the left wing was placed into the bottom left corner by Paige Peltier. It was 2–0 in the 14th minute as a right wing corner by Paige Kalal, was headed in by Kaitlyn MacBean. In the 30th minute, Thunder attempted an audacious free kick from 35 yards out and rattled the crossbar with the keeper beaten. With Thunder dominating midfield and Rochester still attempting to play constructively, it was 3–0 in the 36th minute as Lauren Heinsch blasted from the top of the box after a left wing free kick was only partially cleared. The final goal of the half came in the 42nd minute, another rocket from the top of the box, this time from Sofia Caballero, after scrambling defense.
Thunder opened the second half in the same vein, hitting the crossbar from a right wing cross. In the 50th minute, it was 5–0, off a right wing corner, headed home by Kelsey Kallio. The sixth goal came in the 80th minute after an interception in midfield, and Caroline Bailey tapped in a sideways pass from Olivia Lovick.
Friday:
MapleBrook Fury 4 vs 1 Dakota Fusion FC
The Fury started having fun as early as the 9th minute, when a run up the left wing was passed over to the right and then reversed back for the finish by Alison Fine. A breakaway in the 12th minute, also down the left, led to the match’s second goal, dispatched by Jasmine Gates. It took until the 42nd minute for MapleBrook to further pad their lead. It came from a header by Clare Snapko off a right wing free kick, back across the keeper .
Fusion came close in the 55th minute but Fury got their fourth goal just two minutes later, after a free kick on the right wing, edge of the area was blasted home on the rebound by Hannah Zahn after a scramble. Fusion grabbed their consolation five minutes from time when Summer Carlson connected on a long Hannah Butzlaff clearance up field, following a Fury corner.
Sioux Falls City FC 2 vs 1 Mankato United SC
Sioux Falls City had a first minute chance, and then almost immediately after Mankato United’s Nadia Lowery had her own chance, acrobatically tipped onto the crossbar by the City keeper, Hailee Fischer. There were end to end chances in the 12th minute before Mankato took the lead in the 13th minute as a ball was crossed in from the left by Olivia Thoen and Jenny Vetter flicked the ball with her head over Fischer — who was out on her six yard box.
McKenna Buisman had a strong chance for Mankato with 51 on the clock. The equalizer was a solo effort by Kirsten Wetterstrom, twisting and turning a United defender inside out before striking from the edge of the box, past Mankato goalkeeper Mackenzie Rath in the 57th minute. Both sides had chances snuffed out by the goalkeepers before Wetterstrom touched home the winner in the 87th minute after a one-two with Ellie Schock on the left.
FC Dayton vs FC Pride
Ava Hall and Alaina Huber scored as FC Dayton continue to have a ball in their WPSL debut.
Saturday:
Ambassadors Cleveland 3 vs 0 Century United
Taylor Huff, Korbin Albert and Emma Flick scored as Ambassadors open their double header with Century with a win.
Columbus Eagles FC 1 vs 4 Beadling Soccer Club
Columbus Eagles had multiple chances and corners, chiefly down their left. However, it was Beadling who took the lead in the 33rd as Sarah Schupansky dribbled down the left wing before coming in field and belting a shot from 20 yards out into the top right corner of the goal. The lead was doubled after Beadling had a shot cleared off the line in the 40th minute, with the corner going in for Schupansky’s second of the game. The last action of the first half was a rough challenge by the Beadling goalkeeper in the box on an Eagles player, but the referee declined to award a PK.
Schupansky completed her hat-trick early in the second half with another bullet from 20 yards out, roughly central. Madison Costner hammered a ball home, dribbling in from the right to make it 3–1 in the 54th minute. Carolina Lucci completed the scoring for Beadling, finishing off a left-wing counter attack.
Kansas City Current II 8 vs 0 Quad Cities Rush
Rush avoided the scale of their first week defeat, but only by degrees. Felicia Knox, Lily Farkas and Caroline Kelly each scored two goals. Brie Severns and Amelia Horton scored the rest.
Dayton Dutch Lions FC 0 vs 2 Cincinnati Sirens
Haley Miller and Makala Woods scored as the Sirens claimed the victory.
MapleBrook Fury 1 vs 5 Salvo SC
Salvo made the short trip to Osseo and left with all three points. Khyah Harper opened the scoring in the 7th minute, with a header from an Emily Heslin cross to the back post. Harper then hit the crossbar in the 14th minute. Laney Murdzek set up Jessie Hunt to make it 2–0 in the 22nd minute.
It was a Murdzek cross which led to the third goal in the 59th minute, hitting a hand in the MapleBrook penalty area. Harper stepped up and put away the PK. Three minutes later, she completed her hat trick, chipping the goalkeeper from outside the area. In the 65th minute, Meredith Haakenson got in on the fun, dispatching a shot on the rebound. Jasmine Gates scored the only goal for the home side, spoiling the Salvo clean sheet on 76.
Midwest Select SA Muskrats 0 vs 0 Chicago KICS
The Muskrats welcomed the KICS to their house but neither side could break the tie.
Fire and Ice SC 4 vs 1 Iowa Raptors
The home squad got going early, scoring with only 43 seconds on the clock through Sarah Foley. An interception in midfield with thirteen minutes played was followed by an incisive pass down the middle for Foley to slot home her second. A left wing corner was headed home by Nour Noujaim for the Raptors. It was 3–1 in the 60th minute as a run down the left wing ended with a blast past the keeper at their near post by Julia O’Neill. The home team added their fourth goal when Mara Keomanivane drove a ball in from 30 yards out with five minutes left.
Bavarian United 6 vs 0 Chicago Dutch Lions FC
The Bavs scored six without reply against the Dutch Lions, from six different scorers. Scoring goals were Marisa Grzesiak, Brandi Thomsen, Anna Francheschi, Rachel Dallet, Myah Strokosch and Trudy Quidzinski.
Sunday:
Century United 3 vs 4 Cleveland Ambassadors
Cleveland’s goal scorers were Kiersten Havens twice, Morgan Pentz and Ashley Townsend once. Century United saw a couple of goals from Sheridan Reid and one from Krystyna Rytel.
Fire and Ice 4 vs 0 Central Illinois United
Gracey English hit the crossbar after 12 minutes for Fire & Ice. The opening goal came after an initial shot from a corner in the 17th minute was blocked, but Sarah Foley poked it home. Foley had another shot on goal in the 23rd minute. Hannah Braun’s penalty kick in the 33rd minute was firmly dispatched for a two goal lead. Sierra Cenek had a chance but Becca Nielsen stopped it for Central IL United.
MacKenzie Litzsinger had a solid chance in the 46th minute, but Nielsen blocked the shot with her right foot. CIU had a goal chance cleared off the line in the 48th minute. Foley took a shot from the edge of the box which was momentarily lost by Nielsen but then recovered. Mara Keomanivane scored the third goal for Fire & Ice, curling it home in the 51st minute, from the edge of the area after a period of neat interplay in the box. Julia O’Neil took a shot for Fire & Ice from 18 yards out, saved, in the 57th minute. Sierra Cenek completed the scoring with a solo run down the right wing, dribbling centrally before blasting the ball into the top left corner in the 65th minute.
Manitou FC 0 vs 2 Sioux Falls City FC
Anna Bondy and Shyanne Reid had the goals as Sioux Falls City came into White Bear Lake and continued to roll.
Minnesota Thunder 11 vs 0 Dakota Fusion FC
It seems strange to say of a blow out loss, but this could have been even more emphatic a win, if Fusion’s GK hadn’t had a handful of great saves. Thunder opened the scoring from a right wing corner in the 6th minute through Kaitlyn MacBean. They made it 2–0 in the 20th minute, a solo counter by Paige Kalal who slotted it into the bottom left hand corner. It was 3–0 after Paige Peltier scored. It became 4–0 in the 28th minute after Paige Kalal took a pot shot from 25 yards out into the bottom right corner. An attack down the right, saw a shot from 20 yards out, powered past the Fusion goalie for 5–0 by Kalal for her hat trick in the 37th minute. A giveaway in midfield led to a solo counter by Andrea Barth, past the keeper to the right for the 6th goal. In the 40th minute, a header from the center of the box just past the keeper made it 7–0 through Paige Peltier .
The second half saw a Fusion shot on goal in the 52nd and a tighter defensive half but Thunder were not finished. A corner from the right in the 69th minute made it 8–0 as Kaitlyn MacBean beat the Fusion keeper to the ball for her second of the game. In the 70th min it was 9–0 after a long ball down the middle was pushed out to the right wing, crossed in and headed in at the near post by Caroline Bailey. Only 1 minute later, a left wing cross, somehow ended up in at the near post, for 10–0, also courtesy of Bailey. The last goal came from a left wing corner, headed in far post by Paige Peltier for her own hat trick.
Joy Athletic 0 vs 2 Rochester United
A side-footed finish from 15 yards out, into the left bottom corner of the goal was the deciding effort — in the second half of a closely contested match by Anna Reinholz. Rochester added a second through Sienna Latta, who finished a PK after being fouled in the box.
