One game opens up the Great Lakes conference and the North continues
Duluth FC 2 vs 0 Minneapolis City SC
Duluth sped past Minneapolis City and secured a win in their home opener. The first goal from Felipe Oliveira came from a quick solo counter attack in the 9th minute following an intercepted pass in the midfield. The rest of the first half was evenly contested but it remained 1–0 at half time.
The opening minutes of the second half were dominated by Duluth and another interception in midfield was turned into a goal after a ball lofted forward was turned in by second half substitute Sam Thornton to complete the scoring.
Duluth effectively controlled the midfield, conceded very few chances and completed the clean sheet.
Joy St Louis Park 4 vs 1 Dakota Fusion FC
Joy secure their first win of the season, returning some of their momentum from last week’s loss with an easy win against Dakota Fusion.
Philip Caputo opened the scoring for the Goats in the 21st minute with a scruffy opener. The last five minutes of the first half were a rollercoaster, with Fusion levelling the match through Kevin Zapata Perez from a corner in the 40th and then the visitors conceded a penalty (comfortably dispatched by Zinedine Kroeten) and a red card when Reese Kilpin handled inside the box barely 2 minutes later.
The home team added goals from Noah Kantorowicz in the 60th minute and a second from Caputo in the 73rd minute.
Med City FC 1 vs 1 Sioux Falls Thunder FC
The Mayhem have looked blunt this season so far, and while having plenty of possession, it took until the 52nd minute for them to secure the lead through Andreas Garcia.
An 87th minute penalty kick by Tyler Limmer tied the score after a Thunder player was brought down receiving a throw in.
Minnesota TwinStars FC 4 vs 2 LC Aris FC
Abraham Kuyateh opened up the scoring for the TwinStars in the 18th minute and Mark Boquin doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute. Aris pulled closer just before half-time with a goal from Abdul Samet Ankaoglu and it was 2–1 at the half.
Boquin grabbed his second of the game just after half-time and the TwinStars made it 3–1 through Pe Carlos Gbamy in the 78th minute. Aris again pulled it close late with a goal from Diego Arenal, but were unable to pull level.
Carpathia FC 2 vs 1 FC Milwaukee Torrent
On a bumpy, natural grass pitch, it took 40 minutes for the scoring to be opened, as the home team went ahead through the Aussie Ayrton Redmore. Three minutes later, Torrent got their equalizer through Chava Nunez. Joey Tinnion then finished a counter attack in the first minute of first half injury time to make it 2–1.
The drama was not over, however, as Carpathia’s Dave Edwardson was given his marching orders in the 67th minute. The home side held on to claim the three points.
