Minnesota Soccer Mailbag: Rough weekend for Minnesota soccer teams

Even with only three of the many many soccer teams in the Twin Cities having kicked off their season it was a busy weekend in Minnesota soccer. MNUFC, MNUFC2, and the Blizzard all had matches over the weekend and none of them ended well for the Minnesota side.

But before the matches kicked off MNUFC2 appointed Nathan Smith as assistant coach. Smith joins the club from the University of South Carolina Gamecocks men's team, having been the program's associate head coach. Smith also previously worked in Atlanta United's academy system, before going to South Carolina.

On Saturday night Minnesota United fell 3–1 in Nashville, losing for the first time in the 2026 season. The Loons thin defence with the absence of Michael Boxall struggled with the Coyotes league leading attack.
