Loons on Loan: The Open Cup has arrived and more!

The US Open Cup is here, Jung had a standout performance in Korea, and USL league play continues.

For the Loons on Loan in the US and around the world it was a busy week of football and news. Last weekend ahead of Forward Madison's season opener, it was announced that Kage Romanshyn Jr was headed to Madison for the 2026 season. That added another Loon on Loan bringing the total to nine players out on loan for Minnesota United. In the middle of the week, the 2026 edition of the US Open Cup kicked off, bringing even more matches this week.

Worldwide Loons

Hoyeon Jung (Suwon Samsung Bluewings, K League 2): This week saw Hoyeon Jung score his first goal of the loan spell to Korea. Jung scored what would be the match winner in the 36th minute of a 2-0 Bluewings victory over Jeonnam Dragons in a more than solid performance from the 25 year old.

Wessel Speel (Shelbourne FC, League of Ireland): It was a two match weekend for the Reds, with Shelbourne playing matches on both Friday and Monday. On Friday away to Derry City, the lads from Drumcondra took a 2–1 win with Speel making three saves on the evening. On Monday night in Dublin, Speel had an outstanding performance, getting his first clean sheet since December 2025. The 24 year old made six saves in Shelbourne's nil-nil draw with Bohemians.
