Loons bring Cherrion Valerius in on loan from NAC Breda

The 20 year old Dutch born player spent the last few seasons playing for NAC Breda in the Eredivisie

Shortly after loaning out Devin Padelford to New York Red Bulls, it was officially announced by Minnesota United that the club had brought in Cherrion Valerius on loan. Loaning out Padelford allowed this transaction to push through as the Loons acquired Discovery Priority for Valerius as part of the Padelford loan. The 20 year old Dutch defender joins MNUFC following two seasons with NAC Breda in the Eredivisie and shortly after NAC's 2026-27 season in the Eerste Divisie started, following their relegation from the top flight last season.

“Cherrion is a high-upside young player who has already gained significant high-level experience for someone his age,” said MNUFC Interim Sporting Director Hank Stebbins. “We’re excited to welcome him to the club, get him integrated with the group, and support his continued development.”

Valerius came up through the NAC Breda Academy and the move to Minnesota will be his first move away from NAC. During his time with the senior side in Breda, Valerius has made 50 appearances for the club, including four this season. The loan for Valerius goes through the end of the 2026 MLS season, with the club having the option to buy following the end of the season and loan.

With Minnesota's defensive struggles as of recently a defender with top flight experience will boost the Loons efforts on the back line. Valerius is the second player during the transfer window to be loaned in, the other being AZ Jackson, who has already made a mark with MNUFC. Valerius will officially join the club following the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
