The USA came into the match directly after a hard-fought semifinal and Brasil were the more rested but it was the hosts who prevailed, with a bullet header from Lindsey Horan in first half stoppage time. Brasil had the stronger possession but were unable to really test Alyssa Naeher in the US goal. Duda Sampaio and Portilho with the closest of a collection which were substantially off-target.

The US looked most threatening with the introduction of Sophia Smith and Lynn Williams but they were likewise unable to make it a more substantial margin of victory from their shots on target advantage. In the end it was a long diagonal by Sam Coffey, who had a dominant first half, across to Trinity Rodman on the right wing, who passed it to Emily Fox. Fox’s cross expertly headed home by Horan at the back post.
