Bubble soccer, a long time fun game and intermission entertainment during ice hockey games, but that is about to change. We'll that's about to change later this year with the launch of a professional bubble soccer league. Our insiders, who've given us massive scoops before such as the time machine at Edor Nelson Field, informed us of the plan just days before the official launch of the league. According to our sources, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman have had this league in the works for a while.
"This has been in the planning stages for about five years, both leagues look at this as a huge investment opportunity," our source stated to us on the condition of anonymity. "The plan is to play in NHL arenas during the MLS winter and summer breaks starting later this year. In the winter they'll play on ice and in the summer either turf or bare concrete."
For those new to bubble soccer, it's very similar to soccer except everyone is inside a giant bubble that only their legs stick out of. The ball can be either a regulation soccer ball or a giant inflatable ball, depending on location. Between two and six players can take part in a match and the goal size also varies depending on location. All of those things have been ironed out though, with the goals being the size of indoor soccer goals and the ball being a regulation sized soccer ball that is per our sources "bouncy as all hell."
Matches will be played in four quarters of ten minutes, with stop time for substitutions, ball out of touch, and anything else that would stop play. There will be no offsides or cards and tackling and hitting other players is encouraged. Current or retired MLS players may join the league alongside the various indoor soccer players and hockey goons being recruited for the league.
This new professional league, named Major League Bubble Soccer (MLBS) will have a team format more similar to the Professional Lacrosse League or Unrivaled Basketball, with most of the season being done as a touring schedule. The winter portion will see clubs play throughout the country on ice rinks while during the summer they'll also tour but will play on concrete or turf in those same buildings. Kickoff for the inaugural MLBS season is set for 24 December, 2026 with the first half of the season ending in mid-February 2027.
We hope everyone enjoys the first ever MLBS season this winter! Oh and happy April Fool's Day, we wish pro bubble soccer would happen, but alas it probably won't.
