Round 1 Matches
Vancouver Rise 2 – 3 AFC Toronto
Opening up the weekend in the Northern Super League was a rematch between the 2025 Matheson Cup Champion Rise and regular season champion AFC Toronto. A near sellout crowd of 4,650 filed into Swangard Stadium to watch their defending champion Rise open the 2026 season. But thing did not begin well for the Rise as Toronto's Zoe Burns scored just 8 minutes in to give the visitors an early lead.
Toronto's lead did not last long as Rise scored less than 10 minutes later. Camila Reyes ran up on a loose ball at the top of the box and unloaded a shot that cracked the underside of the crossbar before going in. Before the half Rise scored once again thanks to Latifah Abdu. The second half ended up being all Toronto with Sarah Stratigakis striking home in the 61st minute to draw the match level. Eleven minutes later it was Esther Okoronkwo scoring during a cluster inside the eighteen after a corner and wrapping up the Toronto win.
Halifax Tides 3 – 1 Ottawa Rapid
A lively crowd of 4,030 filled the Wanderers Grounds in Halifax as the Maritimes club hosted the team from the nations capital. And that home pitch advantage paid off for the Tides who sent Rapid back to Ottawa without a point. As the first half wound down it was former Minnesota Aurora star Addison Weichers scoring first. Weichers headed in the ball after a corner was sent in by Karima Lemire.
Another goal would not happen until there was less than 15 minutes left to play in the match. Jordyn Rhodes scored a 79th minute goal from eight yards out following a low cross sent in by Saoria Miller. That goal proved to be key as Rapid would not let themselves be shut out in the season opener, with Nicola Golen getting one back just two minutes later. But the Tides weren't finished and put the nail in the coffin in the 85th minute, four minutes after Ottawa's goal. Halifax's goal started on a corner but finished with a shot from Julianne Vallerand during a scrum for the ball.
Calgary Wild 0 – 2 Montréal Roses
The only match of the week where the hosts did not win and also had the smallest crowd of the weekend of 3,219 in the league's biggest stadium. From the opening whistle to the final whistle it was all Montréal, more specifically Elyse Bennett. Late in the first half Bennett scored her first goal and added to it with a 50th minute goal, securing her a brace in the season opener.
