As reported by TheCup.us, this year's USASA Amateur Cup has been replete with forfeits so far this year, across the four regions. In the Midwest, it was instead a disqualification from the tournament which threw the timing of the tournament out of whack. While Chicago House's disqualification was successfully appealed, the appeal took the game completely outside the "competition window" allocated for the second round.
“We are pleased that the committee took a sincere review of our appeal, asked relevant questions and came to the same conclusion that we had,” said House Managing Partner and CEO Peter Wilt.
“We look forward to hosting the Minnesota Blizzard in the 2nd round match as soon as possible,” Wilt said.
ASAP turned out to be the May Day weekend. In another twist, USASA added that the winner would receive a bye through to the semi-finals, thus avoiding a fixture backlog for the victorious side.
The game was scheduled to take place at Benedictine College in the village of Lisle, IL, in the far western suburbs of Chicago but ironically, the reschedule caused a Blizzard forfeit due to player availability issues.
"We could not field a team to travel this weekend due to players not arrived from college, finals week and graduation.
Very disappointing as we did have a strong team ready to play on April 19 (the originally scheduled date)"
Elsewhere in the Northland -
Second Round:
United Serbian SC (WSL) 1-8 Green Bay Glory (MWPL)
What seems like a lifetime ago, Green Bay advanced comprehensively versus United Serbian. There were 9 different goal scorers here. Josh Johansen, Cooper Re, Griffin Pecore, Seth Schroeder, Tommy Geocaris, Keven Sosa-Lassila (PK), Abraham Navarro, and Javoni Mendoza all scored for the Glory. We will add the tally for the Serbs, an equalizer of all things, when we know.
Quarter Finals:
The two most successful Region II teams from last season's competition - Milwaukee Torrent and RWB Adria received automatic byes to the QF stage. We are skipping over Adria and the 1927 v Goshen City match-ups because they are outside our area.
FC Milwaukee Torrent (NPSL) 2-3 Green Bay Glory (Midwest Premier League)
Glory captures the all Wisconsin match as the team from Green Bay come south and knock out Torrent in Extra Time at Uihlein Soccer Park. Scorers pending, but I figured this round-up had waited long enough and that will end our coverage of this tournament for this year, as both the Northland teams are out.
Next up for our teams is the non-league season, beginning with Friday's MN Super Cup play-in Qualifier between Camargo FC of MASL and Minnesota Blizzard FC.
