While the seasons for both the first team and second team have just started, there's a few players who've been playing for a while already and a few more who haven't started their competitive season yet. These are your Loons on Loan, of which there are eight of as of the beginning of March. Two players in Europe, one player in Asia, and five now getting their minutes in the USL Championship.
The Championship's season is set to start this upcoming Friday night with Louisville facing Lexington. That is provided the USLPA does not strike ahead of the season, which is a realistic possibility. As a note the USLPA has been without a CBA for it's players in the USL Championship since the end of 2024, though USL League One is unaffected.
Loons around the World
Wessel Speel has been on loan with Shelbourne FC (Rep. of Ireland) since late July of 2025. In his time in Ireland he's made 25 starts for the Reds, including six in the UEFA Conference League. So far in the 2026 League of Ireland season he and the club hold a record of 1-2-0 (W-D-L), where Speel started all three games and has given up 1 goal in each game. Through three league matches he has made a combined four saves..
Slovakian Matúš Kmeť joined FC DAC 1904 (Slovakia) in February of this year. This came after he spent 2025 playing with Polish side Górnik Zabrze. Kmeť has played in three of four matches since joining the FC DAC totalling 180 minutes on the pitch. DAC has gone 1-2-1 in those three matches and are 12-7-3 on the season and sit in second place in the Niké liga Championship Group. There are just 10 matches remaining in the Slovakian top flight and Kmeť may return to Minnesota following the season, depending on if DAC takes up the option to buy.
Hoyeon Jung (정호연, Jeong Ho-yeon) was loaned out to his home country in February, joining Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K League 2. The newly relegated Bluewings are aiming to get back to the Korean top flight after narrowly being relegated in 2025. They defeated Seoul E-Land 2–1 in 2026 KL2 opener, though Jung did not play in season opener nor was on the matchday roster. The Bluewings next match is on 6 March at Paju Frontier FC.
