West Ham lost 4-1 to the Champions, Manchester City. Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1, and Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sam Kerr's final appearance for the club. Only three of the top four teams can qualify for the Champions League next season. In the end, it wasn't close.

The only issue left to decide going into this weekend was whether Leicester City would avoid the drop or whether Charlton Athletic would get promoted into their spot. That game took place in SE7 this afternoon. I expected the Addicks to sneak it, as the team with all the momentum, whereas Leicester has been grinding to their paltry points total in the top division. What I didn't expect is what happened, a remarkably ineffective game for both attacks, 0-0 with a penalty shootout that finished 2-1 to the hosts.
That wraps our first season on the English football beat. I hope you enjoyed it. Next season begins on September 7th, a mere 107 days.
In the meantime, we have all the footy you could possibly ask for right here at Northland Soccer Journal.
