Granite City FC 1-2 Minnesota TwinStars
A free kick by TwinStars from 35 yards out was fumbled out for a corner by the keeper but the corner was saved. Granite City had an attack down their right but it was smothered. In the 15th minute, a GC corner hit the gridiron crossbar. With all the end to end attacking, the first shot on goal came in the 25th minute, as Deightan M Pietrzak made the save. In the 32nd minute, the hosts had the ball in the net, but it was marginally offside. A minute later and Pietrzak stopped another shot. Granite City pressure continued through the 40th minute and TwinStars managed a shot down the keeper's throat. In the end, neither team had broken through at half-time.
The pattern repeated all the way until the 63rd minute, when the evergreen Mimi Eiden (who first played at this level with the 2018 Fire SC 98 WPSL squad) was brought down on the left wing. The free kick, from Emely Lopez 23 yards out, was whipped onto the head of Eiden, who put the TwinStars ahead.
Only two minutes later, virtually a carbon copy situation saw Mariah Tita smash one from the edge of the area past the despairing Granite City keeper.
With 30 seconds left on the regulation clock, Granite City FC finally found a goal through Alicia Hoffman.
