St. Thomas in a rough spot, but playing well in a tough league

St. Thomas are on a four match winless skid, but that doesn't come without positives for the Tommies.

It seems like only yesterday that the St. Thomas men's soccer season started. Back in August the Tommies kicked off the 2026 season against Detroit Mercy at South Field. Now we're in October and the season is coming to a close with St. Thomas playing only three more matches before the close of the season. Only one of those, the penultimate match of the season against Omaha, will be at home.

Season to this point:

September:

Tommie men's soccer entered the month of September with a respectable record of 1-2-1 and started the new month off on a good note. Wins over St. Cloud State (D2, GLIAC) at home and away at the Milwaukee Panthers to open September. That was followed up with losses at Marquette and at home to Xavier in the middle of the month.

St. Thomas closed the month with another road trip, making it four on the road in their last five. In the first match of the trip the Tommies won 2–1 at Utah Tech before falling 3–0 at Belmont to end month.

Early October:

At 4-2-4 entering October, St. Thomas was now looking at the back end of their schedule and Summit League play. Opening October with a home match against #5 Kansas City, the Tommies made the Roos fight for it, only falling 1–0 to the top five team. The following weekend was not so fun for the Tommies as they fell at Western Michigan 4–0, extending their winless skid to three matches.

This Week:

Tommies 0 – 0 Delaware

Entering their second conference match of the season on 3 match losing skid, a point against Delaware was the goal for St. Thomas. Delaware on the other hand are 7-4-2 on the season and on 8 match unbeaten streak. The Blue Hens also won only other match in series history, beating the Tommies 1–0 out east last season.

Today the Tommies losing skid continued, but undoubtedly in a positive way. St. Thomas held the visitors to a nil-nil draw at South Field. Delaware outshot the Tommies 11-5 with five of the Blue Hen shots going at goal. But Tommie keeper Moritz Krenc made five saves to keep the visitors at bay and pull out a point for the Tommies.

Next Week:

Tommies at UMass - 17 Oct at 12pm CT

Next up the Tommies head to Amherst, MA to face the UMass Minutemen in a Summit League matchup. Last season in St. Paul the two teams drew their meeting nil-nil. But the season the Tommies may have the edge, even though they are on the road.

UMass are 4-3-6 (0-2-0) on five match winless skid after taking a 3–0 loss to Omaha on Saturday afternoon. Before facing the Tommies though, the Minutemen will face Dartmouth (Ivy League) in the middle of the week.
