Loons and Toros meet for the first time in 2026

Sitting in 6th and 7th in the Western Conference, the two clubs have had a similar recent trajectory.

With a five match unbeaten streak including the Open Cup and three straight wins in MLS play, Minnesota United appears to have exorcised their demons from earlier this season. Now it's time for the Loons to head to Texas for a showdown in the half-open Toyota Stadium. This is the clubs only meeting in the first half of the season and we'll have to wait until September for the return match when Dallas visits Minnesota. MNUFC is 8-6-7 (W-D-L) all time against the Toros and have only lost once in Frisco since the end of 2020.

The key for Minnesota will be shutting down Major League Soccer's top scorer in Peter Musa. Musa has scored nine goals across eight matches played so far in 2026, but is not FC Dallas' only threat. Logan Farrington has scored four additional goals for FCD, who are one of only five teams to have 17 or more goals through the first quarter of the season.

"He's a real handful. I mean, they are a good team around him as well. They [FC Dallas] put crosses into the box, he's a great target for that," manager Cameron Knowles said about Peter Musa. "He's a really good finisher, they're aggressive in the way they press."

While Dallas is a top five club in terms of goals scored, Minnesota find themselves closer to the opposite end of that spectrum. MNUFC is ranked 24th in MLS with just 10 goals scored, though the Loons offence has picked up in recent matches. Following the draw with Seattle the Loons have scored two goals in every single one of their matches played since. Kelvin Yeboah is also looking like he's back to his 2024 form with five goals through the first eight matches played.

The Toros have a relatively middle of the road defence in comparison to their attack. Ranked 13th in the league, they've allowed an average of 1.5 goals per match, just barely better than Minnesota's 1.6 allowed. Dallas is missing key defensive piece Bernard Kamungo, who is out due to injury. This puts a damper on a defence that has allowed their opponents to score two or more goals in half their matches in 2026.

News & Notes

Carlos Harvey is out following sustaining a knock in training last week. You can read more in this weeks Training Tidbits.
