The Mayor's Cup stays at 77th and Lewis

Our Summit League match of the week was the Mayor's Cup between Oral Roberts and Tulsa, played last night in women's soccer.

The Mayor's Cup between Oral Roberts and Tulsa separates two private schools by a 20-minute drive down South Lewis Avenue and wildly differing origin stories (Oral Roberts being an eponymous evangelical leader whose school was founded in 1963, whereas TU is a secular, research-based school founded in 1894)

ORU held the rivalry trophy's soccer incarnation, having seen two consecutive draws follow a Golden Eagle victory in 2023. They would break that streak emphatically, with their goalkeeper barely being troubled thanks to work by the defense marshaled by Peak Defensive Performer of the Week, Precious Edosa, and driven home by solid attacking work by Brianna Castleberry (1 goal and 1 assist), Marlee Fort and Genesis Helsley. Castleberry's sister Addison played over half the game for the opposing Golden Hurricane but was only a sporadic presence in attack.
