After one matchday Minnesota United's Leagues Cup journey may be over nearly as soon as it began. Only the top four of the 18 MLS teams in the competition will advance out of the group stage into the knockouts. For the Loons to do that they will need a heck of a lot to go their way on the final two Leagues Cup matchdays.
Last season it took an MLS club seven points to advance out of phase one and into the knockout round. So while it would be extremely hard for the Loons to do so, it's not quite impossible. Only six clubs won their first match of the tournament in regulation (worth 3 points) while LAFC took their win in penalties (two points) earlier this week.
