What were you doing when your 21st birthday was coming up? Joseph Vigil will be coaching his former high school Roseville Raiders. The journey begins tonight when Coach Vigil becomes the youngest head coach in any sport since the Minnesota State High School League was founded in 1916 at the age of 20 years, 12 months and 7 days old. “I’m thrilled to be back home at Roseville,” said Vigil. “I firmly believe in giving back to my community, as someone who sees the huge potential here. I want the boys’ soccer program to be something the whole community is excited about.”
The MSHSL has three classes for boys' soccer from A to AAA, with the Raiders playing in AAA, Suburban East Conference. Last year, they finished with a 5-4-0 (W-L-D) record.
Vigil joins the Raiders having been assistant coach for two years at Simley in Inver Grove Heights, with the Spartans reaching third place in the AA state tournament last year. He is also currently studying Business Administration at the University of St Thomas.
Roseville play Spring Lake Park at 7pm tonight at Roseville Area High School.
