Loons News: Even more massive change on the horizon for Minnesota United

The Loons had a busy holiday season and even more changes are coming for the club as they prepare to open preseason training in the next week. First reported by Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press, Eric Ramsay is expected to leave Minnesota United and head to EFL Championship side West Bromwich Albion. The Throstles currently sit 18th in the 24 team competition and recently dismissed Ryan Mason, who took over the side ahead of the 2025–26 season, due to the clubs poor results this season. Ramsay was appointed as the clubs second permanent head coach in 2024 and spent two years with the Loons, guiding them to the MLS Cup Playoffs during both seasons in charge. Assistant Dennis Lawrence is also expected to head to West Brom alongside Ramsay.op[]\08
The first team is not the only side to have a management shakeup as Twos manager Jeremy Hall has departed the side, taking a job as the head coach of the US U18 Men’s National Team. The former MLS player and Tampa, FL native has been with the Twos since their first season in 2022. He joined as an assistant to then second team head coach Cameron Knowles before taking over ahead of the 2024 season following Knowles move to the first team as interim manager. Hall led the Twos to their first ever playoff appearance, getting them all the way to the Next Pro Western Conference Finals, where they ultimately fell to Colorado Rapids 2.
Cameron Knowles is frontrunner to take the soon to be open managerial position for the first team as first reported by Tom Bogart. He has been with the team since 2021 and previously served as interim manager in 2024 before Eric Ramsay took over the side. Before arriving in Minnesota, Knowles spent a decade with the Portland Timbers organisation and was manager of Timbers 2 from 2018-2021 while they were in the USL Championship. Other names the Loons might consider are former MNUFC interim manager and current Indy Eleven manager Sean McAuley as well as Louisville City manager Danny Cruz. Cruz was previously considered and interviewed for the position that ultimately went to Ramsay. As for the second team the club stated in their press release “The search for MNUFC2’s next head coach is already underway.”
Minnesota United opens their 2026 preseason camp on Monday and will spend two days in Blaine before heading out to California for the first of two occasions they will be in the Golden State during the preseason. MNUFC’s first friendly match is on 7 February against Sporting Kansas City as part of the Coachella Valley Invitational.
