Loons select two underclassmen and two juniors in 2026 MLS SuperDraft

The 2026 edition of the MLS SuperDraft has wrapped up and the Loons snapped up four players in the most super of all drafts. As the club continues to build towards the future they shot for younger players and very much accomplished the task. None of the four players were seniors and all have at least one season of college soccer left if they so choose to continue down the collegiate path.
Jaylinn Mitchell from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX was selected 23rd overall in the first round. The junior forward from California won ACC title with the Mustangs during the 2025 season after spending the summer with AMSG FC of USL League Two. Mitchell has bagged four goals and six assists through his collegiate career and was named to the ACC Preseason Watch List ahead of the 2025 season.
In the second round the Loons selected another junior forward in Bardia Hormozi from Princeton at 53rd overall.. Hormozi and the Tigers won both Ivy League regular season and playoff titles in 2025 and went unbeaten in Ivy League play. After scoring six goals and accruing four assists Hormozi was named first team All Ivy League.
Redshirt freshman defender Aiden Bengard from Cal-State Fullerton was taken 67th overall in the 3rd round, on a pick the Loons obtained from St. Louis City FC. After playing with Long Beach FC of UPSL over the summer, Bengard made 17 appearances and 13 starts for the Titans.
Lastly the Loons snapped up Michal Mroz at 83rd overall in the third round. The sophomore goalkeeper from Evansville started every match for Purple Aces in each of the past two seasons and finished 2025 with a goals against average of just 0.95. Last summer the Elk Grove, IL native played with Sueño FC of USL League Two where he was the winning goalkeeper when they hosted Minneapolis City SC.
Local Minneapolis City SC product Joe Highfield was drafted 11th overall in the first round by Houston Dynamo. We’ll have a full breakdown of each Loons draftee coming next week.
