One day after Minnesota United acquired Peter Stroud from RBNY, the Loons made their second move of the offseason signing defender Britton Fischer to a first team contract. The Twos acquired Fischer from then USL League One side North Carolina FC ahead of the 2023 season. Since his acquisition Fischer has become a staple and leader of MNUFC2, and one of the longest tenured players on the Next Pro side. Fischer made 71 starts and 78 appearances in his three seasons and helped lead the Twos to an MLS Next Pro playoff appearance and trip to the Western Conference Final in 2025.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to sign with the First Team; it has been one of my goals ever since I arrived in Minnesota three years ago,” said defender Britton Fischer.

The 21 year old Greenville, NC native has also made on appearance with the first team, coming on late in the 2025 US Open Cup against Louisville City FC. Prior to coming to Minnesota he made 30 appearances across two seasons with North Carolina FC, while that club was in USL League One. A product of the NCFC Academy he also played for the NCFC U23 side during his time with North Carolina.

“Britton has shown a continuous improvement across the past few years with MNFUC2, and he has developed into a dependable player on the back line,” said Sporting Director, Khaled El-Ahmad.

Fischer’s contract is a one year contract with MNUFC holding club options for both the years of 2027 and 2028, meaning his contract could theoretically end in the middle of the 2028/29 MLS season. MNUFC’s next transaction news will come tomorrow during the MLS SuperDraft where they hold picks 23, 53, 67 from St. Louis City, and 83 in the three round draft.
