It took extra time for a winner to emerge between Minnesota United and the Chicago Fire in a quarterfinal match of the US Open Cup. The Loons had a man advantage for the majority of the match after Omar Gonzalez was ejected but Chicago got on the scoresheet first after Brian Gutierrez scored off a penalty kick.

MNUFC were down a goal at halftime but Robin Lod’s early goal after the break forced the game into extra time. Kelvin Yeboah scored twice to secure a spot in the semifinals for Minnesota United where they will host Austin FC on September 16.
