The Dylan Wolpers Derby may have faded somewhat from the limelight over the years but it was still observed in some capacity on Saturday night. Dylan's name was still on display on the giant screen above the Wonderwall along with all the other birthday well wishes that flashed across the jumbotron. An homage to the inaugural event down in Houston back in 2018 where the lore originated from. However, a new derby was set to emerge, The Markanich Brothers Derby.
Minnesota's Anthony Markanich and Houston's Nick Markanich had played side by side in college but this marked the first time the twin brothers were pitted against each other in MLS. Anthony got the start for the Loons and Nick was subbed on in the 63rd minute. The brothers got a share of the spoils as the match ended in a 2-2 draw but Nick gets a slight advantage to the bragging rights with his assist on Houston's late comeback goal.
For Native American Heritage Night Minneapolis based artist Willard Malebear Jr. created an incredible piece featuring a loon clutching sage and sweetgrass among floral patterns. A limited run of tee shirts featuring the design were available on matchday as well as scarves which will be available at the team store on Wednesday, October 14. Malebear also worked on a painting throughout the match the that was added to the 2026 Artist Collection.
Next up for the Loons is a trip to Colorado to take on the Rapids on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
