Montréal win NSL Supporters' Shield with win over Ottawa

2026 NSL regular season is at it's close and now the focus is on the chase for the Matheson Cup

The last round of the Northern Super League's second season was an exciting one. Three matches all with implications on the post-season were played over the course of four days. Montréal capped off a brilliant season with a win on Friday night in Laval, QC. That was followed up by a Vancouver win on Sunday and a Monday draw that got the Rise into the playoffs for the second straight season.

Round 27 Matches

Friday, 23 October

Montréal Roses 1–0 Ottawa Rapid

Friday's only match in the NSL decided the Supporters' Shield and top seed in the playoffs. Whichever team came out with a victory would take both of those honours. A better match to decide the regular season title there could not have been as the Roses attack laid nearly 15 shots against Ottawa. But the Rapid defence prevented all but four from going on target. It would take until the 80th minute for the match to be broken open, when Tanya Boychuk scored for the Roses. Her goal proved to be the only one of the night and secured Montréal their first silverware in club history.

Sunday, 25 October

Vancouver Rise 3–2 Calgary Wild

Sunday on the other hand was the first of two matches to decide the final spot in the NSL playoffs. Vancouver had to beat Calgary and hope for a Halifax loss or draw the following night to get into the playoffs. The Rise started hot with Mia Pante scoring just seven minutes into the match, before earning herself a brace with a 34th minute strike. Calgary's Josephine Aulicino cut the Wild's deficit back to one with a first half stoppage time goal. Vancouver striker Jessica de Filippo tallied the Rise's third goal just eight minutes into the second half. While Calgary found a second goal just past the hour mark, they were unable to find a third one, giving the Rise the win in their final match of the regular season.

Monday, 26 October

AFC Toronto 1–1 Halifax Tides

Monday night in the NSL was a huge one for both Toronto and Halifax. A win from Toronto and they would jump into second place in the playoffs. If Halifax won then they would take the fourth and final playoff spot away from Vancouver. Both teams pulled out all the stops and left nothing on the pitch at BMO Field in Toronto. 18 year old striker Kaylee Hunter put Toronto up inside the opening 25 minutes of football. But Halifax answered back right before half time with a goal from Saorla Miller. Neither side could score in the second half, with the match ending in a disappointing 1–1 draw. The draw meant Toronto was the third seed and Halifax would be watching the playoffs from home.
