Minnesota United started off fast and for the first time in quite a while scored first. But that early goal didn't help in the long run as St. Louis scored four unanswered goals to take a 4–1 lead before MNUFC answered back.
Cameron Knowles made four changes to his lineup from the loss against Dallas. Nicolás Romero, Carlos Harvey, Owen Gene, and Tomás Chancalay replaced Marcus Caldeira, Nectarios Triantis, and Jefferson Díaz, who were all available from the bench, along with Morris Duggan. After being listed as questionable Duggan missed this weekends match due to injury.

After struggling the last few matches early on, MNUFC came out of the gate on fire. Five minutes in Tomás Chancalay received a through ball and broke out on his own into the box. Chancalay took a close shot, putting it past Roman Bürki to give Minnesota an early 1–0 lead.

As has become somewhat expected by supporters the Loons lead didn't last very long. Less than 15 minutes later Daniel Edelman sprinted up and to get the rebound off Drake Callender and put the second chance shot in from close range. Four minutes after the tying goal, Carlo Holse took a shot from the top of the box to put St. Louis City up by one.

Once they took the lead St. Louis switched up to playing a slow, methodical, low pace style. One that forced MNUFC to use up quite a bit of energy and chase the ball. Using that to their advantage City broke through the Loons defence quite a few times. It finally paid off in the 38th minute with Rafael Navarro chipping a shot over Drake Callender to put the hosts up by two before the half.

St. Louis came out pushing for a fourth goal and they did get it, but not from open play. Loons centre back Michael Boxall fouled Rafael Navarro inside the box to send St. Louis to the spot. Navarro took the penalty and put it in the upper corner to extend St. Louis' lead to three.
Though three minutes later Minnesota stepped up to the penalty spot themselves. Kelvin Yeboah was fouled by Jaziel Orozco inside the box sending Yeboah to the spot. KY converted his kick to cut the lead down to two, where it stayed the rest of the night.

Things took a turn for the worst in the 80th minute when Kyle Duncan was shown a second yellow. After that point St. Louis slowed the pace back down and ran time out on the Loons to take down Minnesota for the first time ever on City's own home pitch.
Minnesota now gets a full week to regroup before their next match as they continue to push for an MLS Cup Playoff spot. Next week the Loons host LA Galaxy at Allianz Field. That match is only made tougher by the fact they club will be missing key centre-back Michael Boxall.
