Coming off a win last week against St. Louis, Minnesota United looked more confident on Saturday in Houston than they have in a long time. Controlling shots, shots on target, momentum, and the overall pace of the match. It should have been a night for MNUFC, but it proved to be a night for neither side. Big changes missed by Minnesota and a solid defensive performance resulted in a nil–nil draw and the Loons first clean sheet since 7 August against Tigres in Leagues Cup.
With a win and a full week of training under their belt, Cameron Knowles retained almost his entire eleven from last weekend. The only change was Owen Gene coming in to replace Will Trapp at midfield, due to Trapp being out due to concussion protocol. Houston made two changes from their previous outing as Dynamo looked for their first win since 9 September.
One change today for #MNUFC as Wil Trapp is out under concussion protocol. Owen Gene steps into his spot in the midfield as the Loons setup in a 4-4-2. Houston makes two changes; Agustín Bouzat and Antônio Carlos step in for Diadie Samassékou and Agustin Resch

From the outset of the match Minnesota was on the front foot, even without controlling possession. MNUFC's first chance came just five minutes into the match and their second just over ten minutes later. Those first two big chances had one thing in common, missing just wide of goal and rebounding back onto the pitch.
At the same time the match became extremely chippy. Houston was booked for the first time just nine minutes in. Then twice in a span of four minutes near the half hour mark of the match. The biggest booking of the half was a to Houston manager Ben Olsen in the 45th minute. Olsen was sent off immediately after touching the fourth official following an initial yellow card booking.
Minnesota United's defence held together well in the first half, not allowing Dynamo to get a single shot on target. Heading into the second half Houston made some adjustments that started paying off shortly into the half. Those adjustments swung the momentum closer towards the centre, but still in favour of Minnesota. As in the first half MNUFC put themselves into positions to score early on in the second half. Kelvin Yeboah wasn't able to get a clean touch on the ball in the 50th minute and Houston keeper Jonathan Bond jumped on the ball to kill the attack.
With the clock just past the 60th minute, Kelvin Yeboah managed another chance to get a shot and probable goal. But Yeboah didn't get the cleanest chance and misses the goal to the left. Not able to get a clean chance on the ball proved to be a theme the whole night for Yeboah. Cameron Knowles then began bringing on subs to try and pull another much needed three points.
Marcus Caldeira replaced Mauricio González in the 64th minute, while Joaquín Pereyra and Michael Boxall came on around ten minutes later. Tomás Chancalay was brought on in the 90th minute as the Loons final sub. Minnesota's subs weren't able to score, ending the match at the nil–nil scoreline it started at.
Now Minnesota prepares for another two match week as the season hits the final two weeks and three matches. Wednesday night the Loons host midwestern rival Sporting Kansas City in St. Paul for the Loons penultimate home match of the season. SKC is out of the playoff race, but could still play spoiler and eliminate MNUFC from playoff contention. All pending how results later on Saturday and on Sunday go.
